Sakoon Through Cancer volunteers delivered a workshop around self awareness in November 2021. The girls learnt all about detecting lumps and how to address the conversation about Cancer at home. We find in many South Asian households, Cancer isn't something that is spoken about, especially when its associated with intimate areas such as 'breast'. Breast cancer can affect Men and Women, hence why we feel its important to make this a comfortable topic for young people.
We have raised £150 in December 2021, what an amazing end to the year! £150 worth of snacks and knitted items from ' Knit your socks off' were donated to Wexham Park Hospital to say thank you for all they do. Slough has an amazing army of workers for the NHS! We would like to thank Maharaja Sweets and Caterers, Cake Box, Knit Your socks off ' Asian Star Radio and Slough Outreach for supporting us to give back.
Every Tuesday and Thursdays throughout October we held Instagram Lives with some amazing hearts to share experiences and personal views on Cancer. We also had the amazing opportunity to hear from a mans perspective who also went through Cancer himself. Please visit our Instagram ( Sakoonthroughcancer_) to watch them on out IGTV.
Join our monthly network, a safe space to come together and hear from professional services how they can support you.
Ultimately, we want you to relax, sit back and gain knowledge, ideas, friendship and strength into your life.
Meet someone like you hear and share stories that will inspire you to harness well-being to live life with or beyond Cancer.
This network is delivered in collaboration with Thames Hospice for South Asian Woman at their new site on the Maidenhead Road, Windsor overlooking Bray lake, set in rural surroundings allowing you to have a cup of tea, something sweet and connect with nature.
Education Programme
We have devised an Education Programme that has been very successful in local secondary schools as part of the PSHE lessons. We encourage open discussion ideally aimed at Y10 or Y11 students or older.
Workshop Overview:
If this programme could be of support for your students then please contact us by email contact@sakoonthroughcancer.org or our other contact details.
Good to Talk
Good to Talk matches people affected by breast cancer to a trained volunteer who has experienced similar situations and concerns and is there to help. The volunteer will understand the issues they’re facing – whether it is concerns relating directly to cancer, its treatment or to the physical or emotional impact on any area of life.
This service provides the opportunity for people to talk openly without worrying about the feelings of the person listening and ask any questions they like. Most of the support is offered by telephone, but some volunteers additionally provide support by email.
To register for the Good to Talk Service please complete the contact us form.
To find out more about how to become a volunteer for the Good To Talk Service, please complete the contact us form and visit our Volunteering page.
We have held several charity events like our Gala Event, Afternoon Teas, Evening of entertainment and well-being energisers.
Due to the pandemic charities have had to put events on hold, once it is safe to do so, we look forward to welcoming you back to supporting us.
Please do visit our online shop and support by gifting yourself or a friend with a purchase.
